Cosmetic surgery is continuing to enjoy immense popularity, transforming the appearance and lives of countless patients every single year. There is now a veritable ‘menu’ of procedures to choose from, enabling you to find a solution for whatever cosmetic issue you would most like to have addressed.
Here are three of the top cosmetic procedure trends that you can expect to see during 2019.
Tummy Tuck
Also known as abdominoplasty, this popular cosmetic procedure offers patients who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their midsection a chance to transform it. Our abdomen is one area in which many of us find stubborn fat and excess skin accumulate, particularly if we have gained and then lost weight. When the skin is stretched beyond its usual capacity, it may not spring back into position, leaving us with loose, hanging pockets of fat and skin that can significantly affect our confidence.
Tummy tuck surgery, which is a major surgical procedure and performed under a general anesthetic, involves making a long incision across the lower part of the abdomen and separating the skin from the underlying muscles. This enables our surgeon to tighten the abdominal muscles to give you improved tone and smoothness. The skin is then pulled tight and secured, with any extra being removed and discarded. In some instances, it is necessary to relocate the belly button to a higher position.
After a tummy tuck, patients can enjoy a flatter, smoother and more toned stomach with the majority of the scarring hidden in the bikini line.
Liposuction
Liposuction is another cosmetic procedure that never fails to be popular, particularly in the approach to summer when people are trying to get their beach body ready. This is because liposuction is the only cosmetic surgery that targets stubborn fat cells that are hard to lose through conventional diet and exercise. It can be extremely frustrating when you have worked hard with your nutrition and activity, only to find that there are some areas that simply won’t tone up no matter how hard you try.
Liposuction aims to alter body shape by removing these persistent pockets of fat so that patients can enjoy a more toned silhouette. The process involves our surgeon making small, dime-sized incisions into the target area through which a long thin tube is passed. This deposits salt-water into the fat to break it up, and it is then sucked out of the tube and into a container. Although minimally invasive compared to some procedure, it is generally carried out under a general anesthetic.
It is important to recognize that liposuction is not a weight loss tool and is recommended for patients who are happy with their current weight and have fairly tight skin. It is most often carried out in areas including the hips, thighs, buttocks, and stomach.
Breast augmentation
Breast augmentation continues to be a cosmetic procedure that is in extremely high demand. It is used to transform the appearance of the breasts by using silicone or saline implant inserted into the chest cavity to make them larger. In doing so, breast augmentation can dramatically increase a patient’s confidence and self-esteem.
Breast augmentation is an intensely personal surgery. Exactly how large you wish your implants to be and which type of implants to choose is a big decision and will require considerable thought and planning. Silicone implants come pre-filled and are inserted whole, meaning larger incisions are needed to place them. Saline implants meanwhile are inserted empty and then filled to the desired size which makes them a good choice if you already have asymmetrical breasts.
The surgery itself is performed under general anesthetic. Many women also choose to combine their augmentation procedure with a breast lift which will help ensure that their new breasts sit higher on their chest wall, giving them a younger and perkier appearance.
Brow Lift
Do you look in the mirror and feel that you look older or more tired than you really are? In many instances, this occurs as a result of the natural sagging of the forehead and brows that happens when we get older. This happens because the skin loses some of its elasticity, enabling gravity to pull the forehead down. This also shortens the distance between the eyebrows and eyelashes. This new, lower position of the eyebrows can make you look tired, and even angry or sad. By lifting the forehead and brow with a brow lift, patients can look refreshed, rejuvenated and younger than before.
A brow lift procedure is usually minimally invasive as where possible it will be performed endoscopically. However, this isn’t suitable for you, incisions will be made into your hairline to hide any scarring. The tissues of the forehead will be lifted and secured in place using sutures or another similar technique. This is usually done under a general anesthetic although it may be possible to use a combination of local anesthetic and sedation.
